kevinandmclean (Kevin McLean), who lives in London, is a qualitative researcher, a traveller, and a hobby photographer. "Spares" was taken in Cape Town, where he had gone to support the worldwide orphan charity, SOS Children's Villages.

About his photo, Algo says:
"I spent a happy hour watching swans and ducks dealing with the iced up end of the lake. They took less notice of me than ever before.

About 30 yards (metres) of the lake was largely out of the sun, and so still iced. Pa swan broke a channel by putting his body weight onto the ice, which broke with a sharp crack. He seemed as interested in lapping something up off the surface as he reached it, as in making the channel.
Quite soon Ma joined him, although she did not join in the ice breaking.
Then the ducks swam in, but soon found they could walk on the ice, or rather skate on it. Comical how they put a foot forward and it slid an inch or so, and they looked like skaters".

Algo lives in the Chiltern Hills in England. Most of his photos are colorful, although there are great black and white shots too, like Wendover graveyard (2005).
Many are focussed on nature. But not only. You can see a very interesting series of old and arthritic hands (see Drink deep of Life).
He likes playing with light, reflections in water, or misty weather. As he explains with humour, his style is "eye de-light", as "de" in local dialect is often used as "of".

"Je passai une heure de bonheur à regarder cygnes et canards s'affairant à briser la surface gelée du lac, écrit Algo en commentaire de sa photo. Il ne me prêtèrent pas davantage attention.
A une trentaine de mètres, le lac était à peu près privé de soleil, encore gelé donc. Dans un craquement aigu, papa cygne fit, de la masse de son corps, une trouée dans la glace. Il paraissait tout aussi préoccupé de piquer quelque chose à la surface qu'il avait mise à nu, que de percer sa tranchée. Peu après maman le rejoignit, bien qu'elle ne s'associât point à son travail sur la glace.
Les canards se mirent à nager, mais découvrirent bientôt qu'ils pouvaient marcher sur la glace, ou plutôt patiner sur elle. Quelle comédie, la manière dont ils mettaient un pied devant l'autre, et ça glissait de quelques centimètres à peu près, ils ressemblaient à des patineurs".

Algo vit à Chiltern Hills, en Angleterre. La plupart de ses photos sont très colorées, bien qu'il y ait de magnifiques prises en noir et blanc, comme Wendover graveyard (2005).
Beaucoup portent sur la nature. Mais pas seulement. Une intéressante série a pour sujet des mains de vieillards et d'arthritiques (voir Drink deep of Life).
Il aime jouer avec la lumière, les reflets sur l'eau, les temps de brume (misty). Comme il le dit lui-même avec humour, son style est "eye de-light", et charme l'oeil par les jeux de lumière.
